NDT Methods

Radiographic Inspection

The principal industrial uses of radiographic testing involve testing of castings and weldments, particularly where there is a critical need to ensure freedom from internal discontinuities.

  • (RT) Radiographic  Testing
  • (CR) Computed Radiography
  • (DR) Digital Radiography
  • (CT) Computed Tomography
  • (NR) Neutron Radiography
Ultrasonic Inspection

Ultrasonic testing is widely used inmetals, principally for thickness measurement and discontinuity detection. This method can be used to detect internal discontinuities in most engineeringmetals and alloys.

  • (UT) Conventional/Shear Wave
  • (PAUT) Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing
  • (ToFD) Time of Flight Diffraction
  • (TFM) Total Focusing Method
Eddy Current Inspection

Based on electromagnetic induction, eddy current testing is the best known of thetechniques in the electromagnetic test method. Eddy current testing is used to identify or differentiate among a wide variety of physical, structural, and metallurgical conditions in electrically conductive ferromagnetic and nonferromagnetic metals and metal test objects.

  • (ET) Conventional Eddy Current
  • (ET-A) Eddy Current Array
  • (NFT/RFT) Near/Remote Field Testing
  • (ACFM) Alternating Current Field Measurement
Liquid Penetrant Inspection

Penetrant testing  reveals discontinuities open to the surfaces of solid and nonporous materials. Indications of a wide variety of discontinuity sizes can be found, regardless ofthe configuration of the test object and regardless of discontinuity orientations.

  • (PT-V) Visible Penetrant Testing
  • (PT-F) Fluorescent Penetrant Testing
Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic particle testing is a method of locating surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials.

  • (MT-Y) Bench
  • (MT-B) Bench
Visual Inspection

Visual testing is the observation of a test object, either directly with the eyes or indirectly using optical instruments, by an inspector to evaluate the presence of surface anomalies and the object’s conformance to specification.

  • (VT-D) Direct Visual Testing
  • (VT-I) Indirect Visual Testing
